A parterre of old roses for a house near Morebattle: the client and I decided to be daring and use only two varieties – Ispahan and Madame Hardy, with a few obelisks for the longer season Blush Noisette. We planted a border of white valerian, and the client added the splendid sundial. Elsewhere, we created a flight of grass steps down the valley side, amidst and avenue of double wild cherries and gave the lawn up by the house and enclosing hedge of yew.
