Hello there!
![]() In the Spring of this year, I was fortunate enough to be asked, by the Harvard University Alumni organisation, to accompany a tour of some quite wonderful gardens dotted around the Caribbean. As a North European gardener/botanist, to see rainforest, and, even better, rainforest gardens was totally thrilling. I hope the alumni enjoyed the five lectures I gave. This is a shot of a private garden in Domenica.

2004
saw the appearance of three new books: DANGEROUS
GARDEN , CLASSIC
GARDEN PLANS, and the
paperback edition of PLANTS
THAT SHAPED OUR GARDENS.
DANGEROUS GARDEN was listed by DISCOVER magazine as one of the top 20 science books that appeared in 2004. It was also nominated for The Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries Annual Award for a Significant Work in Botanical or Horticultural Literature, and for the 2005 National Academies Communication Awards.
At
the moment, this site gives brief details of books, gardens,
photography, and offers you many of my newspaper and magazine
articles. The site is slowly being developed to include around 600
published articles. It also now contains the text of some of my
out-of-print books. First up is THE
GARDEN TRIUMPHANT, a lively
but erudite look at the delights and horrors of Victorian gardens and
gardening. GEORGIAN GARDENS and PLANTING
THE PERFECT GARDEN are
next. Please use the blog to let me know if you think there are
things I could usefully add!
